- All birds are fragile and need to be handled with care, even the big ones. Tiny bones form wings and every feather is important for protection and flying.
Wild birds are… well, wild! They don’t want to be handled even if healthy and if injured, will display fight or flight behaviours – flight by trying to escape or fight by biting and making loud noises so they are let free.
- If the bird is bleeding or has an obvious broken bone, it needs to be taken to a vet immediately where it will be given a full assessment and pain relief or other medical treatment.
Do not feed the bird or give it water but simply place it in a box lined with paper towels and tissues and close the box to reduce stress for the bird. Keep it in a quiet environment until it reaches the rescue centre or vet.
